Buzz Lightyear Nutcracker Takes You to Infinity and Beyond

My friend James Kennison built this Buzz Lightyear nutcracker. It’s amazing!

Buzz Update: IT IS FINISHED!! Well mostly. After attaching all the buzz bits I went and got new paint and better colors. Basically started over with a lighter gray. Then the green parts, head, purple parts, chest and arm buttons and finally the face and jaw. I trimmed down a nail for the jaw and patched the hole and repainted. DONE! Except for the base. Any color suggestions?

Buzz Nutcracker update: I got the mouth working. Now he looks like a Frankenstein with that nail sticking out. He's also getting that creepy nutcracker vibe which is also nice.

Buzz Nutcracker update: I turned the legs and arms. Cut the arms to achieve that classic pose and dry fitted it all with dowels. What do you think?

Buzz Nutcracker Update: I turned a bullet shape then cut it in half for the feet. Did a lot of drilling and hand carving to put dowels in each joint: shoulders, elbows, feet, then legs into body. He's all dry fitted and ready for glue.

Buzz Nutcracker Update: Time to start gluing the arms and legs. Had an idea of replacing the handle in the back with his jetpack. Drew it out. Cut it out and glued it down. I'm using dowels for all of the joints. No nails so far. Except the jaw I guess.

Buzz Nutcracker update: Today was more gluing. Arms to body. Legs glued to one another. I cheated and bought the base at Hobby Lobby. I drilled holes through, then glued on the legs, then drilled through the feet and glued in dowels. After that I glued the legs to the torso and that's it! (If he looks like he's screaming it's cause he is). We're ready for priming and painting! What do you think?

Nutcracker Update: So I THOUGHT I was ready to paint… I got started and was well into it before I realized I had left off the extra bits: ears, nose, etc. I bought some small wooden disks at Hobby Lobby and shaved them down to size. Then glue and clamps. NOW I should be ready to paint!
